Who we are
The West Papua Network (WPN) is a forum of organizations and individuals in Germany that are concerned about the political, social, ecological and cultural situation in West Papua.
The Network does not have a formal structure of members. The organizations engaged in the WPN are human rights, environmental and solidarity groups as well as congregations and organizations of the Protestant and Catholic Church. Journalists, researchers and other people interested in West Papua are also engaged in the Network. In different ways they all work for justice, peace and integrity of creation in West Papua.
The WPN has a coordination office in Wuppertal which is in charge of the advocacy- and public relations work of the network. The office is monitoring current developments in West Papua on a daily basis. It provides information and reports on West Papua via its mailing list, a quarterly print publication (“West Papua Rundbrief”) and through this homepage. The Network organizes seminars, symposiums and conferences on West Papua.
The aims of the network are to:
- Inform about West Papua
- Create awareness for the political, social, economical, ecological and cultural problems in West Papua
- Provide advocacy for human rights and environment in West Papua
- Strengthen capacity and competence through mutual exchange
- Work together for joint actions
